Writing # 1 (Unit 4, lesson 3, writing exercise 7)

Although I’m not a person that really pays attention to ads, there are some of them that truly stand out.  On one hand, I think my favorite ad, is without any doubt, the TV commercials of “Banco Davivienda”. They are creative, interesting and every time I watch them, they make me laugh a lot. I specially enjoy the ones with the TV sports reporter that usually are broadcasting during the World Cups. On the other hand, I don’t like the TV ads of Axe deodorant, for me they are mainly unrealistic and boring. Besides that, they are vulgar and sexist considering the way they portray women, as sexual objects ready to serve men.

(Aunque no soy una persona que realmente presta atención a los anuncios, hay algunos de ellos que verdaderamente se destacan. Por un lado, creo que mi anuncio favorito es, sin lugar a dudas, los comerciales televisivos de "Banco Davivienda". Son creativos, interesantes y cada vez que los veo me hacen reír mucho. Disfruto especialmente con los del reportero deportivo de TV que generalmente transmiten durante las Copas Mundiales. Por otro lado, no me gustan los anuncios de televisión del desodorante Axe, para mí son principalmente poco realistas y aburridos. Además de eso, son vulgares y sexistas, considerando la forma en que representan a las mujeres, como objetos sexuales listos para servir a los hombres.)

Writing # 2 (Unit 5, lesson 2, writing exercise 6)

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” is one of my favorite books ever. The young adults novel tells us the story of 12-year old Percy Jackson an average American boy who suffers from dyslexia and ADHD who discovers he is a demigod; his mother is a human and his father the Greek god of sea Poseidon. His life changes when Zeus’ lightning, a powerful weapon possessed by the king of the Greek gods is stolen. Everybody including Zeus think he is the thief and now he should find a way to save his mother, who has been kidnapped by Hades the Greek god of death, and prove he didn’t do anything. In this adventure he travels through America along his friends Grover Underwood, a satyr, and Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena; looking for the entrance of the underworld, and at the same time facing many dangers, specially Greek monsters like the minotaur, the  Furies and even Medusa.     

("Percy Jackson y los Olímpicos: El Ladrón del Rayo" es uno de mis libros favoritos de todos los tiempos. La novela para adultos jóvenes cuenta la historia de Percy Jackson, un chico estadounidense promedio de 12 años que sufre de dislexia y TDAH que descubre que es un semidiós; su madre es humana y su padre el dios griego del mar Poseidón. Su vida cambia cuando el rayo de Zeus, una poderosa arma poseída por el rey de los dioses griegos, es robada. Todos, incluido Zeus, piensan que él es el ladrón y ahora debe encontrar una manera de salvar a su madre, que ha sido secuestrada por el dios griego de la muerte Hades, y demostrar que no hizo nada. En esta aventura, viaja a través de los Estados Unidos junto a sus amigos, Grover Underwood, un sátiro, y Annabeth Chase, una hija de Atenea; buscando la entrada al inframundo, y al mismo tiempo enfrentando muchos peligros, especialmente monstruos griegos como el minotauro, las Furias, e incluso Medusa.)
